Free Trials

Many groupware providers offer free trials so you can get an idea of what each software package provides, functions and looks. We have provide you with a brief description of each free package and where to find each free package.

WebCT - There currently does not appear to be a free trial version from WebCT. If there is, please let us know the URL to it. We found their website to be very confusing and the link to the free trial did not work. (April 8, 2001)

BlackBoard - Easy to find, right on the BlackBoard homepage (http://www.blackboard.com). You need to go through all the steps and fill in the blanks, and there all lots of choices to make. However, this procedure does set up all of the options for your free course. After you complete the form you will receive a confirmation email with the URL to your course. You can then log into your course and start using it.

Centra - Centra provides you with free use of their product called CentraNow. CentraNow allows you to hold a centra session with you and 5 guests. The first 5 guests are free, and additional guests will cost you. You can try out CentraNow at https://www.centranow.com and by clicking Try a Free eMeeting Now. If you are using audio then make sure you have a mic and headphones (speakers will do).

Note: You must have a Windows based operating system. If you have Virtual PC on your Apple it might work.

First Class - Although Centrinity does provide free downloads of the First Class client (needs to installed on your computer) they do not provide you with a free trial of their software. (Not that we could find!) In order to have access to First Class, you need to have installed the server software. Although Centrinity does have an excellent website http://www.centrinity.com.
